Ahh, you smell that? It’s the smell of a brand new year. Complete with optimism and the hope of accomplishing all of those goals that get rolled over from year to year. Society calls them resolutions.

Or, on the other hand, maybe you are having a tough time coming up with goals for the year. The blank slate of a new year can seem intimidating. But don’t worry, I’m here to help. Here are 18 resolutions for 2018 you can put into practice starting today:

  1. Try harder. However hard you tried in 2017, just try a little harder in 2018.
  2. Be more brave. “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” -Anais Nin. I’m pretty sure nothing great was ever accomplished without a little courage.
  3. Love more. “Every time we love someone that the world wants us to hate, it’s a dagger in the heart of satan.” -Johnnie Moore
  4. Give more. The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. -Jewish Proverb
  5. Be more thankful. Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot. – Hausa Proverb
  6. Read more. Reading is the ability to live a million lives and learn a million things. Live and learn: buy a book.
  7. Compliment more. Be that person. Find the good in others. You reap what you sow.
  8. Hope more. “No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new doorway for the human spirit.” -Helen Keller
  9. Mend a relationship. People are too important to waste. Life is too short to wait.
  10. Workout more. You can do it. It’s only hard at first. Trust me.
  11. Learn more. Watch, study, listen, learn. We live in the information age, it’d be a shame to waste it.
  12. Be more faithful. Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find? -Proverbs 20:6
  13. Be more positive. Positivity and optimism are rare. Be rare.
  14. Have more faith.
  15. Be more self-confident. Self confidence comes from knowing your worth as a person. You are worth the riches of God. That’s not too bad.
  16. Read one verse every day. It doesn’t get any easier than the Bible app.
  17. Think long-term more. Delayed gratification is one of the most powerful tools in the human tool box. Learn how to use it.
  18. Experience more. Travel somewhere. Visit a museum. Experience something new. See something you’ve never seen before.

Resolution 19: buy my book.

It’s highly entertaining and a great way to support my writing, learn something new, and experience something you haven’t experienced.

That’ll take care of goals numbered 4, 6, 11, and 18
